In New Orleans, Louisiana, down the street from the epic National World War II Museum, is Memorial Hall, Louisiana's oldest museum. It's also referred to as the Confederate Memorial Hall Museum (if you search for it online).
The amount of treasures in this modest, yet architecturally magnificent, building is almost never-ending. They do a wonderful job telling the story or background of every single personal relic they have, which gives that item a lot more meaning. After hitting Beauvior the day before, I was surprised to find quite a few Jefferson Davis relics here. But there are also items from Robert E. Lee, Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, Pierre G.T. Beauregard, Braxton Bragg, William Mumford, William J. Hardee, Albert Gallatin Blanchard, John Bell Hood, etc.
We took the time to really look at each item and read the stories and descriptions, so we were there almost three hours. They also have a very substantial gift shop with many items I've never seen before.
If you're in the mood for pizza afterwards, G's Kitchen & Bar is where we love to go when we're in the neighborhood. It's only four or so blocks away, and easy to get to by foot. While walking there, you'll pass an area where a Robert E. Lee statue once stood.
